Sites covering learning design in general

Don Clark's Big Dog site is a very useful source of information about the whole systematic approach to instructional design in particular and performance, learning, leadership and knowledge generally .

Dick and Carey's "The systematic design of instruction" is often described as something of a bible for Instructional Systems Design methodology. There are plenty of sites that explain their ideas - this one for example.

The Journal of Educational Technology and Society is an on-line journal looking at the use of technology in education. Use the search facility to look for information that you need.

The Encyclopaedia of Educational Technology contains a lot of information buried here about different aspects of multimedia.

The University of Colorado at Denver site contains some straighforward explanations of key learning theories.

About.com contains lots of information about lots of things, including adult education!

The US Navy knows a thing or two about performance improvement and makes some of what it knows available in its Human Performance Center.

Educational Psyschology Interactive has a page with a long... list of links covering many aspects adult learning.

Web-based learning and interface design

Multimedia authoring is a useful site for people interested in the authoring (as opposed to programming!) side of instructional design.

User Interface, a useful site offering general information about various aspects of interface design.

The Web-based Training Information Center is a portal for e-learning specifically.

Jakob Nielsen is perhaps the expert on interface usability issues. An essential.


Task analysis  

The US Navy's Human Performance Center has a good page covering task analysis and how you can adapt it to the more demanding requirements of extracting detailed levels of knowledge from an expert.


Project management  

Don Clarks's Big Dog provides some information about project costing. A bit out of date, but the percentages still apply!


Writing questions

A University of Oregon page provides some useful things to consider when trying to design questions, especially multiple choice questions that require more subtlety of thought on the part of the learner.
